One day life is grand. The very next day something unpredictable and unimaginable happens. What would you do if it were you? Would you stay and fight or would you hide? These are the questions the characters ask themselves as their adventures take shake shape. This is the first book in the Successive Harmony series. There are several mystical creatures, but they have very real human characteristics. There are a few I would love to know. My favorite character is Sigvid. He reminds me of myself sometimes. He does not take any lip from anyone, but shows how he cares in a very subtle way. My favorite part of the book is when the baby white dragon was about to be born. Its dad went to find her rider. Cannot say what happens, but it is awesome. I actually laughed out loud when the Dvengers interacted with a flashlight. Sounds silly I know but it was funny. There were parts in the story where I could feel the pain from one of the main characters. At first it was a little confusing. There is a small backstory but some elements of what happened are missing until you read more of the book. I can honestly say I did not see the end of Chapter 2 coming. Once you think you have the story line where you think you know what will happen next, there is a twist. It flows wonderfully to keep you reading though.
This book reminds me of the Lord of the Rings and Resident Evil. If you like these types then you will enjoy this one. I would recommend this for young teens to adults. I kind of wish the ending was different but being a cliffhanger just makes me wish the second book was out. I cannot wait to see what the second book is like, if there is a second book.

Resurgent Shadows Successive Harmony Book 1 eBook Kevin L Nielsen Reviews
Great book. However what happened to the missle silos that were purchased by survivalist.
I liked the complete stories, Caleb,s and Eric. Sadness at the lose of Racheal and Benson. Could hardly put it down as I wanted to continue and ending came up very fast and surprisingly left you feeling that more was to come?
"True leaders, those that weren't always in the spotlight, but that influenced the decisions of everyone around them, those were the most dangerous."
The other statement I love is
"Even in the most impenetrable darkness, a single solitary flame can banish the night,"
Don't usually enjoy much violence, but fighting for their lives is crucial and the book is very thought provoking to me.
Dragon apocalypse causes multiple time lines to converge.
I've owned the book for a while but just got around to reading it and I'm glad I did but also wish I'd gaff waited longer so that I could just keep reading with the next book. I loved how the author was able to take our world as we know it and then create a completely new reality by fusing our reality with fantasy. The characters are relatable and well developed. I'm excited to see where it continues.
This is a story of two humans, chosen to be the champions of Dvergers, a dwarf, race that came to Earth when multiple dimensions clashed and opened up ourworld to invasion by dragon, Wizards, trolls, and other alien species. Eric was chosen by a hammer and Caleb received a bow and quiver of magical arrows. Both were imbued with superhuman powers by the weapons and found ways to overcome the berserker mentality that came over then in the heat of battle. They came to lead both the dvergers and humans. The story is well told, very difficult to put down, and enjoyable. I am looking forward to the next book.
I really enjoyed Resurgent Shadows. I'm very much looking forward to the series and recommend it for a light and entertaining read. No this book is not the next Lord of the Rings in depth or breadth. However, if you are like me and enjoy a well written and well described light fantasy with some decent twists and a new concept then this book is well worth reading. I did not put the book down and very much enjoyed it. Please join me in reading it.
I shared this feedback with Kevin else where but I wanted to share it here
I wanted to thank you for the Successive Shadows series. I'm looking forward to book 2. I enjoyed a couple of points
1) I like how you are drawing in bits of faith. I find it interesting that modern authors have shied away bringing questions of faith into fantasy novels. Eric is clearly Judeao-Christian in some nature (though the nature seems to be irrelevant for now). I would love to see this faith explored greater. I like the depth you are trying to draw out here but you could do much more (as part of Eric's character growth).
2) I greatly enjoy the breadth of characters and their growth both for Caleb and Eric. I was surprised by the choice of a bow for Caleb and allowed my brain to see a sabre or a scimitar at that time. I am still interested in the juxtaposition that seems to have occurred between the two characters. Caleb began the beast and became calm ... possibly even negatively show. Eric began the thinker and is now the beserker. I am interested to see where you take this.
Things I would personally love to see
1) What became of the US Military. I am still dissatisfied with the depth of explanation given so far. The US military (and Chinese and Russian for that matter) has been built around surviving a Nuclear Winter. We have world wide bases and facilities and we have a Navy with nuclear powered submarines. I can see the disintegration of the governments of the world under the breaking but I have complete and utter confidence that a core group of military would survive somewhere (say Crystal Mountain) or at least the US Navy would continue to operate (as described in World War Z). Need more explanation on how that all fell apart or to see them appear as another force of Order (or maybe some of them act as forces of Chaos and some as forces of Order).
2) The scope of growth of the characters power level increase in the first book was startling but what they are against is even more impressive. I am curious to see how you balance those two bits against each other.
Please keep the series running. You may be a father of a new sub-genre of fantasy that is largely unexplored!
