First, let me confess my love of Zombies and my indifference to Shakespeare,
but a spoonful of Zombies helps the Shakespeare go down! That being said, this book is awesome. I started reading it late last night and by sunrise I was done. Yet I still wanted to read more.
It is an interesting twist on the classic tale. This Juliet is fierce. She has the heart of a warrior, reminiscent of another Shakespeare heroine Queen Cordelia from "King Lear." I imagine her leading around two armless Zombies in tights by chains while she wields a Samurai sword.
Romeo, lady’s man and reluctant hero, mans up. Together they take their best and worst and become a Zombie asskicking force. What I love most is Mr. Sakai's voice throughout the story, his love for Romeo and Juliet is tempered by his lust for blood.

A humorous and engaging take on a classic tale. Its the type of Shakespeare you don't need cliff notes for! Two zombified thumbs up.

This is an amusing take on Romeo and Juliet with zombies. At times you just want to slap some sense into both of the main characters, but they're teenagers after all. It's a quick and fun read.
I thought this was a fun and smart read of an old classic with a new backstory that other people will enjoy. Some great characters, gender-flips, questions on morality and family, and love stories (some darker than others) all make for a great romp through Shakespeare's brain.
I AM ABSOLUTELY ADDICTED TO THIS BOOK! The chapters are short and sweet. Easy to read book. Always fun to read renditions and twists of classics. I personally was not a huge lover of the original Romeo and Juliet but I love this idea of them facing a zombie apocalypse. I also enjoy reads where the female lead is a strong independent person so I'm glad that this book has that element. Its such a hard book to put down because it is such an adventure.
Fun mix of zombies, famous literary characters, and humor. Do you remember slogging through Shakespeare plays in high school? Romeo and Juliet is the least boring one to study. Montagues and Capulets hate each other. Their family feud causes violence in Verona. In Mr. Sakai's book, a plague on both their houses turns star-crossed lovers into fighters. Juliet is a badass warrior like Brienne of Tarth. Romeo is a delicate flower, but mans up to battle the undead. I would love to see this on film.
